February in Costa Rica: Romance, Sunshine, and Time for Two

February in Costa Rica has a way of making you want to spend the entire day with someone you love, preferably outside. In the sun. With the breeze in your hair.

Here in the North Pacific province of Guanacaste, by February, we’re firmly in dry season. Mornings arrive bright, blue skies stretch wide over the Pacific, and warm afternoons have a habit of turning into golden sunsets and clear, star-filled evenings. If you’re coming from the middle of winter in the United States, Canada, or Europe, even that first morning coffee outside lets you know you’ve made a very good decision.

And when you’re traveling as a couple, all that sunshine gives you something especially valuable: time, flexibility, freedom.

Time to walk without rushing anywhere. Flexibility for a swim before lunch. Total freedom to sit outside over another drink because the evening is too beautiful to head in. February in Costa Rica is time to get on the water, watch the coastline go by, and stay there until the sun disappears into the Pacific.

February Weather in Costa Rica for Your Couples Getawayundefined-Oct-08-2026-01-42-25-9399-PM-1

February in Costa Rica gives you the kind of weather you’ll definitely be dreaming about by the time the winter doldrums hit.

You can head out early and stay out well after sunset. Walk the beach in the morning, spend a few hours on the water, take to the trails, stop for lunch, swim again, and still have a whole evening ahead of you. By night, clear skies bring some beautiful stargazing into the mix.

There’s plenty you can plan, but some of the best February moments happen simply because the weather lets you keep going. That might mean one more walk before dinner. A swim because you happen to be passing Playa Danta. A drink outside while the sky changes color. Or deciding that tonight’s big plan is simply finding a good table and staying there awhile.

For us, that freedom is one of the best parts of a romantic trip to Costa Rica.

A Walkable Couples Getaway on Costa Rica’s Pacific

There’s something inherently romantic about being able to walk almost everywhere together.

In Las Catalinas, you can leave the car out of most of your day and simply go. Walk hand in hand through town for coffee. Wander toward the beach or directly into the water when the Pacific gets too enticing to pass up. Take to the trails because you suddenly feel like seeing the Pacific from one of the Platforms. Or spend an hour just walking through town, pointing out your favorite courtyards, stairways, plazas, doorways, fountains, and architecture along the way.

Here, you don’t need a formal itinerary every time you step outside, and that opens the door to spontaneity. You might start out thinking you’re going to lunch and end up getting your toes sandy first. You might head back to your flat and stop somewhere for a drink instead. You might decide to spend an extra hour by the water because neither of you has anywhere else you need to be.

We can help you plan the experiences that deserve a place on the calendar, but Las Catalinas also gives you plenty to enjoy in between them. And when you’re here on a romantic trip for two, that combination can be pretty special.

Unique Flats for a Romantic Stay in Las Catalinas

Some of our most distinctive stays for couples are the unique flats tucked throughout Las Catalinas.

Studios and one-bedroom flats give two people an intimate home base with all the character you love about town, while select two-bedroom options offer a little more space to spread out. Depending on the flat, you might stay right in the heart of Beach Town, with Playa Danta, coffee, dinner, and evening walks just outside your door, or higher in Los Altos, where ocean views and cooling breezes become part of a romantic experience.

“Unique” isn’t just a qualifier; these flats manage to pack serious personality into a smaller footprint. Think private terraces (sometimes more than one!), private courtyards, tropical hardwood beam ceilings, whimsical spiral staircases, fountains, barbecue areas, and beautiful indoor-outdoor spaces that feel made for lingering. And that’s us just getting started.

Some of our one- and two-bedroom flats also feature private pools or plunge pools, and select stays include Beach Club access. Others are all about the ocean view, with wide Pacific panoramas that make morning coffee, an afternoon break, or a glass of wine at sunset part of the trip.

We can help you find the flat whose details fit the way you want to spend your time together, whether that means being right in the middle of Beach Town, waking up high above the Pacific, or having your own terrace and pool to come home to.

A Sunset Sail for Two on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast

undefined-Oct-08-2026-01-42-26-9670-PM-1If we were choosing one February afternoon to build a romantic day around, getting out on the Pacific would be high on the list.

A sunset sail gives you much more than the final hour of the day. You head out while there’s still plenty of afternoon ahead, leaving the coast behind as the views open toward Playa Hermosa and along Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coastline. Once you’re aboard, settle in with drinks and light bites and enjoy the simple pleasure of seeing Guanacaste from the water.

Then, you get in it.

Depending on the outing and conditions, you can stand-up paddleboard or kayak directly from the boat, giving you time to explore before climbing back aboard. It’s an afternoon that can move between activity and doing very little at all, which is part of its charm. Paddle together for a while, swim, stretch out on deck, have another drink, and watch the light begin to change.

Then comes the reason we love staying out there until evening. Sunset over the Pacific is different when there’s nothing between you and the horizon. The afternoon light goes gold, the coastline shifts into silhouette, and the sky gets the final word. In February, these bright dry-season days give you plenty of opportunities to enjoy that entire progression from afternoon sunshine to golden hour to sunset.

What Else Can Couples Do in Las Catalinas in February?

The rest of your stay can be as active or as leisurely as you want it to be.

Spend a morning swimming or strolling along Playa Danta. Hike through our trail network and stop at the Platforms for Pacific views. Go snorkeling or scuba diving, play tennis or pickleball, spend wellness time at Center of Joy, or simply claim a stretch of beach and stay awhile.

Food can follow the same philosophy. There are more than a dozen places around town where you can eat, have a drink, grab coffee, stop for something casual, or finish the evening with dessert, many within roughly a five- to ten-minute walk depending on where you’re staying. We can point you toward the places that fit the evening you have in mind, or help arrange a private chef dinner when your terrace, courtyard, or ocean view is simply too good to leave.

We’ll also help you decide what’s worth planning ahead and where it’s better to leave a little room for spontaneity.
